Senior Software Developer
J2EE/Websphere


Our client is a leading financial services corporation are seeking a Senior Software Developer to work within their Software Development Career Centre located in Dublin. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing our European Distribution Technology Portal based on a Java/J2EE/Websphere development environment.

The successful candidate is expected to have several years Software Development experience preferably working in the Insurance or Financial industry.

Role Description:


•
Lead and organize a team of developers, including Web developers, middleware and database developers
•
Liaise and provide consulting support for applications to project teams
•
Work in an iteractive OO development methodology with the business, analysts, and testers. The application architecture involves an N-Tier system interfacing to existing back office systems
•
Contribute to project planning and estimation
•
Ensure web services, Java components, servlets/portlets, etc. are reused by yourself and others
•
Provide recommendations and advice relating to in-house vs third party development.
•
Manage production support related issues, co-ordination of fixes and liaison with third party suppliers.
•
Monitor industry trends, technologies and standards for potential internal use.
•
Creation and updating of software development best practices




Essential Skills and Experience:


•
Proven ability to lead a large development team in the delivery of portal solutions
•
Highly proficient communication, initiative and leadership skills
•
Websphere Application Server and Websphere Portal Server experience
•
Extensive knowledge of object-oriented development in Java, J2EE (EJB, JNDI, JSP), XML and Web-services
•
Degree in related discipline (computer science) or equivalent combination of training and experience
•
Knowledge and experience with client facing portal or client facing transactional sites
•
Thorough e-Business infrastructure knowledge – security, high performance, high availability, etc.
•
Ability to use Microsoft office productivity tools
•
Expert level analysis, problem solving and teamwork abilities
•
Highly proficient communication, initiative and leadership skills
•
Good understanding of OOAD, UML & Design Patterns, Service Oriented Architectures
•
Clear understanding of quality control processes and procedures within a development environment
•
Fully conversant with the Java development stack and programming techniques.
•
Extensive knowledge of one or more of the following: Object-oriented development, UML, Websphere Portal Server (WPS) V5 or higher, WSAD V5.0 or higher, XML / ACORD Standard, Struts, Content Management – Stellent, Rational Suite experience, CVS and Service Oriented Architecture knowledge or experience



Ideal Candidate Profile:

•
The successful candidate is expected to be educated to degree level, or equivalent experience
•
Preferably an industry standard accreditation such as Sun certified Java developer
•
At least 3 to 5 years experience leading a team of developers
•
The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who is a motivated self starters
•
Successful applicants will have operated within a recognised application/service delivery process and methodology such as CMMi or RUP and understand the importance of change management, testing and documentation.
•
Have a \'can do\' attitude.
